I've lived in my house in Fort Lee for thirty years and this was my first full roofreplacement. The experience was less disruptive than Ianticipated. We found out at closing that the previous owners had installed new shingles over anexisting layer without ever replacing the decking. It looked fine from the outside but the inspectorflagged it. Paramount Roofing stripped everything back to therafters and found the decking in reasonable shape,which was a relief given what we'd imagined

The winter we had back-to-back nor'easters was the year I finally understood what icedamming actually does. The water backed up behind the ice at the eaves,got under the shingles, soaked the decking, andcame through the ceiling directly above our frontdoor. We converted our garage into a studio space and the original flat roof over it hadnever been properly waterproofed. The EPDM installation by Paramount Roofing wasclean - they fully adhered it rather thanballasting, which made sense given the limitedfoot traffic and low wind exposure on thatsection.
