CANCELLED: High School Theatre Audition Workshop

Have your high school play or musical audition coming up? Want to practice your monologues for your college theater audition? Join us at the Demarest Public Library to get audition instruction from Teacher,Director,Designer,Producer,Acting Coach, and Voice Actor Victoria Pero! Victoria is a teacher at Bergen County Academies and will help you get your audition materials ready to wow a director or college admissions board! Have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the library! INSTRUCTIONS: Actors will bring two 90-second monologues and be prepared to give a short summary of the play and character they are playing. THEY MUST HAVE READ THE ENTIRE PLAY for contemporary monologues. Victoria specializes in classical monologue technique and would encourage actors to bring a Shakespeare monologue to the workshop. She will have several on hand if actors would like to explore a classical piece. The workshop will focus on: discovering the heart of the monologue, breaking down the text, making very clear choices about "the other" in the scene, playing the space, telling the story and connecting emotionally and personally to the language and character. Having coached thousands of actors over the past 25 years and working closely with heads of theatre departments across the country, Victoria brings a deep understanding of the college auditions process and loves helping young actors feel excited and prepared for auditions! Instructor Bio: Victoria Pero is an actor, voice actor, director, and award-winning theatre educator with more than two decades of experience helping young performers discover their unique artistic voice. She is Co-Director of the Performing Arts Department at Bergen County Academies, where she teaches acting, voice & speech, stage combat, accents and dialects, devised theatre, theatre history , fashion and costume design since 2004. She was named Bergen County Academies' Teacher of the Year in 2011. As a professional theatre director, Victoria's work has been seen Off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club, Amas Musical Theatre, The York Theatre, La MaMa, and FringeNYC, and she has collaborated with organizations including the Royal National Theatre in London, The Guthrie, and Utah Shakespeare Festival and many others. As an actor, she recently appeared Off-Broadway in the Episodic Theatre Project, with Spokehouse Productions of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, and in productions for Columbia University's MFA Directing Program. An accomplished voice actor, Victoria has performed in national commercial campaigns, animation, video games, audiobooks, and educational media for clients including Microsoft, TikTok, Nickelodeon, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and numerous interactive media companies. Passionate about mentoring the next generation of artists, Victoria has helped students gain admission to many of the country's leading BFA and BA theatre and musical theatre programs.
