About Silvana: Silvana was born in Calabria, Italy, and came to the United States with her family when she was 4 years old. In Italy, her mom and great-grandmother introduced her and her 2 sisters to embroidery, knitting, crocheting and weaving on a big loom their great grandma had in her house. Silvana was always fascinated by the beautiful colors of the yarns. Once they came to the United States, Silvana met a great-aunt, who would make the most intricate crochet doilies, and that is where her passion for crocheting began. While her sisters did better with knitting, Silvana stuck with crochet for many years. At a time when technology was not like it is today, Silvana's pastimes were either reading or crocheting. Now she enjoy teaching it to others and gives her great satisfaction to see how it is carried on and at all age levels. Silvana began knitting many years later and now she does either, depending on my mood, or project that she am interested in. Demarest - Community Room
