Saturday Concert: Latin Fire & Cello Soul: A Cello Performance by Alex Prizgintas

Join the Friends of the Library on Saturday, October 24, for a performance by cellist Alex Prizgintas! Alex blends the best of Latin-themed music with bossa novas, tangos, cha-cha-chas, and sambas. Popular standards including “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Oye Como Va,” “Brazil,” and “Viva La Vida" will be played along with accompanying historical commentary by Alex. About Alex Alex Prizgintas is a New York-based historian, author, preservationist, and musician who lives and works in the Hudson Valley. As a musician, Alex has more than ten years of classical training as a cellist. Augmented with tools such as guitar effect pedals, a looping station, an amplifier, wireless microphones, and a mixing board, he pushes the limits of his acoustic instrument through the repertoire of Jazz, Rock ’n Roll, Latin Tangos, Broadway Classics, and more. His inaugural “Bach to Rock” program has since grown to fourteen different shows, performed at community venues in nearly every corner of the Hudson Valley. Furthermore, each musical selection is coupled with scripted narrations that tease our audience with dialogues that offer historical insight and casual conversation. With new, popular selections such as “Woodstock 1969,” “Behind the Iron Curtain: America’s Jazz Ambassadors,” “The British Invasion,” “America: Songs of Patriotism, Praise, and Protest,” and “Cello Fire & Latin Soul,” Alex is on the road more than 250 times each year.
