Author Talk: How do You Say Kosher in Japanese?

Local author Scott Paranada-Fried arrived in Japan in the summer of 2001 with the aim of staying true to his Jewish roots. However, in the small town of Tamagawa, deep in the Japanese countryside, that proved to be an exceedingly difficult thing to do. Everywhere he looked, he found shellfish, shellfish, and other not Kosher foods staring him in the face. So Scott decided to take a different approach: melding his Jewish beliefs with the Japanese cultural landscape. An approach he documented in his book "How Do You Say Kosher in Japanese?"
